Portuguese Language Exchange: Learning Through Cultural Connection
Since 2017, I have been engaging in language exchange with Chinese speakers, assisting them in developing Portuguese language skills while deepening my own understanding of Mandarin and Chinese culture. This informal teaching experience emerged organically through digital platforms such as WeChat and HelloTalk, where structured conversations helped bridge linguistic and cultural gaps.
Throughout these interactions, I have supported students in refining their pronunciation, expanding their vocabulary, and navigating real-life conversations in Portuguese. In return, this exchange has provided valuable insights into cross-cultural learning, strengthening my research on language, identity, and communication in intercultural contexts.
This ongoing experience has reinforced the importance of cultural immersion in language acquisition, offering a dynamic and reciprocal approach to learning.
Research on Intercultural Consulting
Understanding cultural dynamics is essential for meaningful interactions in business, education, and global exchanges. In parallel with my PhD research, I have been deepening my studies on how individuals and organizations navigate cultural complexities, focusing on both challenges and opportunities in cross-cultural communication.
As part of this process, I have been developing structured approaches to intercultural analysis, integrating anthropological research with case studies from real-world interactions. This work seeks to bridge academic insights with practical applications, offering new perspectives on cultural adaptation, negotiation, and communication in different contexts. By examining how intercultural interactions shape professional and social environments, I aim to refine analytical frameworks that contribute to more effective cultural mediation strategies.
Translation Studies: Connecting Cultures through Language
Alongside my research on intercultural dynamics, I dedicate part of my daily Mandarin studies to translation practice. This process helps me refine not only my linguistic skills but also my understanding of cultural nuances and specialized terminology. Currently, I am exploring the possibilities of professional Mandarin-Portuguese translation, particularly in academic and cultural contexts. While this service is still under development, I continue to analyze diverse translation challenges, emphasizing cultural sensitivity and linguistic accuracy.
